Introduction to C.A.S.E. and Polyurethane Applications

 

In the polyurethane industry, C.A.S.E. is a very important application area. It stands for Castings, Adhesives, Sealants, and Elastomers. Because polyurethane has adjustable structure, mechanical properties, and good resistance to weather, it has become a key material in all four areas.

 

Castings :

Casting-grade polyurethane is widely used in heavy-duty PU wheels, buffers, and molds. These products must handle long-term heavy loads and friction, so they need excellent wear resistance, tear strength, and dynamic performance. Compared with traditional metal or rubber, polyurethane castings provide a better balance, they can carry weight while keeping elasticity, making them essential in industrial parts.

 

Adhesives :

Polyurethane adhesives are known for their strong yet flexible bonding ability, which makes them effective for joining metal, plastic, leather, fibers, and wood. They are widely used in building construction, car windshields, footwear, and electronic devices. Since polyurethane can match well with many materials, the adhesives not only give high strength but also maintain heat resistance, chemical resistance, and weather durability, especially valuable in applications that face long-term environmental stress.

 

Sealants :

Polyurethane sealants are popular because of their flexibility, adhesion, and durability. They can withstand changes in temperature and humidity while keeping long-term sealing performance. Compared with silicone or natural rubber, PU sealants have better mechanical strength and adhesion to different materials.

In this field, TPU plays an important role. TPU combines thermoplastic processability with rubber-like elasticity, making it suitable for gaskets, O-rings, dynamic seals, and diaphragms. TPU also provides wear resistance, tear resistance, hydrolysis resistance, and low compression set, which makes it ideal for use in automotive, hydraulic systems, oil and gas transport, and electronic devices.

 

Elastomers:

Polyurethane elastomers combine the rigidity of plastics with the flexibility of rubber, making them indispensable in high-performance applications. They are widely used in automotive NVH damping parts (such as jounce bumpers and shock bushings), industrial rollers, gears, gaskets, shoe soles, sports equipment and medical supplies. PU elastomers show excellent strength, abrasion resistance, and rebound properties, staying stable even under long-term repeated loads, which makes them suitable for demanding environments.
